Newham End-Of-Terrace House and Garden
Status: Completed 2020
Location: Stratford, Newham
Construction Cost, Build-Time: £150k, 6 months
The original house was a mid-terraced three bedroom house where the living spaces were subdivided and any views to the large garden were blocked by an outdoor WC and rear utility room.
The client is a passionate gardener and the brief was to connect to the garden as much as possible with the new rear living spaces. We wanted to bring the garden into the house and blur the threshold between inside and outside.
The proposals included a large rear extension with doors and windows onto the garden, a gardeners shower room at the end of the house.
The contemporary design of the extension relates nicely to the original house behind with an architectural language of brick piers, glass and metal capping.
The views to the garden created are fantastic with planting right up to the doors – the garden was designed in collaboration with the award winning Jack Wallington.
