This garden room extends the living space of a mid-terrace Victorian house by 15m2, creating a light-filled, flexible environment for children’s projects, music, craft, surfboard shaping and socialising. Designed to work hard for family life, it combines practical storage and utility with considered architectural detailing.

A large skylight brings daylight down the back wall of the space, visually connecting the interior to the main house kitchen even when the sliding doors are closed. Full-height sliding and stacking doors create a flush threshold, blurring the line between inside and out – fully connecting the garden room into its garden.

The materials palette is natural and tactile: oak timber flooring, European larch cladding, and a limestone patio provide warmth and texture. Powder-coated aluminium features and door frames in a soft oxide red take their cue from the Acer tree in the garden. Underfloor heating ensures comfort year-round.
