Created as a second home for a couple who love theatre and city life, Montagu Apartment reimagines a listed Georgian property into a serene and characterful London base. The design respects the apartment’s historic features while introducing a refined contemporary sensibility inspired by the owners’ love of mid-century design.

Created as a second home for a couple who love theatre and city life, Montagu Apartment reimagines a listed Georgian property into a serene and characterful London base. The design respects the apartment’s historic features while introducing a refined contemporary sensibility inspired by the owners’ love of mid-century design.
A new roof lantern draws daylight deep into the plan, cascading down the restored Georgian staircase to illuminate every level. On the third floor, the living spaces have been opened up to creating a generous open-plan setting for cooking, dining, and relaxation. A subtle connection between rooms allows natural light to flow freely through the home and crittall style doors connect the hallway and refurbished staircase to the living spaces revealing the full width of the property.
Throughout, interior mouldings and traditional joinery preserve the building’s heritage. The beautiful existing timber stash windows were restored. A classic DeVol kitchen, paired with gas fireplaces in both the kitchen and living room, brings a quiet elegance and warmth to evening gatherings. A new powder room complements the third-floor living level, while two ensuite bedrooms occupy the top floor — each complete with working fireplaces and carefully detailed bathrooms. The master ensuite features a generous walk-in shower and freestanding bath.
