A calm, connected home, a kitchen made for gathering, warm materials and layered light.
For the owners of S&A’s House, a doctor and a construction professional, the goal was to create a light-filled, open plan living space that felt both sophisticated and welcoming. The design extends the lower ground floor into the rear garden, uniting indoor and outdoor living with seamless connections to the reimagined landscape.

At the heart of the home sits a striking kitchen island that doubles as a dining table, designed to bring people together. It is the focal point of the open-plan space, allowing for cooking, dining, and entertaining in style. The new extension opens to the garden through stacking doors and a built-in window seat, framing views of greenery and creating a year-round relationship with the outdoors.
Exposed oak beams span the ceiling, complemented by large-format skylights that draw in natural light and views of the sky. The interior palette was developed in close collaboration with the homeowners, blending natural materials and textures with soft, neutral tones. A carefully composed lighting scheme enhances the architecture — with accent lighting between beams, task lighting over the island, and warm illumination at the window seat.
